Black magic at work?
The story below outlines a young boy whose father claims is a victim of Black magic. Although I remain open-minded about anyone's religion, this seems more like a case where the only dark force at play is the inherent depravity of humankind. People still astonish me. It's 2009 almost 2010; I want to believe we are progressing towards becoming a more intellectual species, seeking new schools of thought based on logic and rationality. However, as instances as this remind me, my inner cynic cautions that relying on the logic of the general populace is as far-fetched and outlandish as believing in magic and deferring accountability onto these paranormal evil forces. On the dark side, maybe the blackest magic is our denial of our true nature. Doctors airlift boy with 42 needles stuck in him Sent from my iPhoneOctober 03 2009

Sex Offenders - How far is far away enough?
Reading this article really (sadly) did not surprise me at all. Looking at my experience with Court Appointed Special Advocates, I know that the instance of child abuse far surpasses our overall expectations. But why? To me, we just trust the law. Blindly, we assume the regulations and statutes hold up and the system takes care of this problem. In reality, it fails. Sardonically, I think our willful naivety allows the system to fail. Most people will say this instance is a fluke, a one-time deal. Deep down, I don't think and the system will fail again. Despite this fact, most people will read the article, hate it's horrid truth and continue their day. Now, if more people or even if we questioned more often, would we be more successful in prevention? It seems like we could at least try. From The New York Times: Case Shows Limits of Sex Offender Alert Programs The case of a registered convict accused of holding a captive for 18 years has renewed debate about whether sex offender lists create a false sense of safety. Join me in supporting ONE!
Hi, I've just taken action with ONE and asked my senators to help the world's poorest people - who will be hit first and worst by climate change - meet this new challenge and stay on track to beat poverty. I hope you'll join me: http://www.one.org/us/climatefive/index.html?rc=climatefivetaf Senators are working on this bill right now. That gives us an incredible opportunity to speak out and convince them to make sure 5% of any revenue from this bill is allocated to helping the world's poor overcome the threats posed by climate change. Together as ONE, we can make a difference! Thanks! Heartland Regional Medical Center = Cruelty
This is absolutely heartbreaking.
I was shocked to learn that Heartland Regional Medical Center continues to use cats for intubation training in its Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course, even though the animals involved are caused a great deal of suffering and even though the course's sponsor, the American Heart Association, does not require or endorse the use of animals and only recommends the use of modern simulators. For these reasons, nearly every other PALS facility across the country uses exclusively non-animal methods for these exercises.
I urge you to put an end to these cruel and outdated training procedures immediately. Please note I am posting this on ALL of my social networking sites to tell the world of your needless animal cruelty.

To Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center:
I was horrified to learn that TTUHSC is inhumane. I abhor your practice of conducting painful intubation training procedures in which cats have hard plastic tubes repeatedly forced down their wind pipes and also have air forced into their chest cavities so that course participants can repeatedly practice inserting a needle into the animals and removing the excess air.
Both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association exclusively endorse the use of manikins, not live animals, for this kind of training because it more accurately represents the human anatomy and better prepares medical providers to treat sick and injured children. Why you resorted to this is unbelievable.
My cat was the joy of my life. I find it absolutely repulsive that you would resort to this.
I urge you to put an end to these cruel and outdated training procedures immediately. Please note I am posting this on ALL of my social networking sites to tell the world of your needless animal cruelty.
